The Farmington “Selection”

The Selection:

This picture was taken at the Farmington CT UCI race last year.  This is the B men’s race shortly after the start.  The road winds along and rips down a shallow descent with a very sharp almost u-turn of a left hander over a curb.  This is where the selection is made.  Make it through in the first twenty riders and you are racing-  miss it and it is tongue on the top tube chasing all day.  This picture shows what happens when you are outside the selection-  there is still about 40 riders coming down the road after this… I know ’cause I was one of them.  I had a second to last row start and was hateing it.  I had to walk, yes walk around that corner.  The top 20 were so far ahead it was crazy.  So-  tips for Farmington:

  1.  Haul ass to that first turn
  2. In warm up look for alternate lines that may not bottle neck
  3. Make sure you are on the outside of this turn if you are not in the top 10
  4. When you get back on the bike-  stand up and give 10 good kicks building to good cadence and keep it going you will make up ground before the area of the second bottleneck

There you have it- tips to help you at Farmington.  Headdown and spinnin’
